The supply of places in kindergartens and early childhood services grew between 2021 and 2022. In fact, during this period it increased from 28 to 30 places per 100 children under 3 years of age residing in Italy. Our country is thus approaching the 33% target originally set at the European level, and then also codified in national legislation with Legislative Decree 65/2017. Thus, 3 points are missing from the target, agreed at the Barcelona European Council in 2002, while the target to be reached by 2030 remains in the background - notes Openpolis, an independent, nonprofit foundation - During the pandemic, with a view to enhancing pre-school education, the European institutions in fact set a new threshold at 45% - commensurate with the country's starting situation.
