Despite the fact that some large companies around the world have been advocating a full-time return to the office over the past two years, the job market seems to be going in a different direction, both in Italy and in other advanced economies in Europe and around the world. An analysis of job searches and vacancies on Indeed - the world's number one portal for job seekers and providers - showed that hybrid and remote job searches in Italy continue to grow. The share of remote and hybrid job searches has more than quadrupled from pre-pandemic levels and has increased by 12.8% since the beginning of the year (from 1.97% in January 2024 to 2.22% in July 2024). At the same time, many companies continue to offer hybrid or remote work options: the share of job ads on Indeed in Italy in which this work mode is contemplated has stabilized at around 10% in 2024, a significantly higher share than the pre-pandemic 2.5%. In Italy, at the end of July 2024, there was an all-time high of 2.2% of total searches for occupations that allow hybrid work modes. This represents a 1.95% increase since January 2020 and a 0.25 l% increase since the beginning of 2024, indicating that the percentage of workers interested in hybrid work options is steadily expanding.
