In Italy, young women with university degrees receive 58% of their male colleagues' salaries, the highest gender pay disparity in the OECD. Young women who have completed upper secondary school or non-tertiary postsecondary education earn 85% of their male counterparts. This is the conclusion drawn by the OECD Education at a Glance 2024 Report, which also states that our country spends 4% of its GDP on education, compared to the OECD average of 4.9%. Almost all known measurements show that girls and women outperform boys in school, and in many situations, the difference is expanding. However, while women outnumber boys and men in education, the situation is reversed when they enter the work force.
