The 30-year-old Paduan tourist who sustained severe injuries after being struck in the head by a statue that had fallen from a balcony in the Quartieri Spagnoli of Naples on Sunday afternoon has passed away. The woman was admitted to the Ospedale del Mare after obtaining first assistance at the Vecchio Pellegrini hospital. The tourist was in via Sant'Anna di Palazzo for a last stop before returning home on Sunday evening. The police are investigating the incident. Chiara Jaconis, a 30-year-old resident of Padua who lived in Paris for work, was in Naples with her boyfriend when she was struck by an object, possibly a statuette, that fell from a balcony in Via Sant'Anna di Palazzo a few hours prior to her flight from Capodichino airport. Jaconis had a major head injury as a result of the incident. She lost consciousness instantly and was intubated before being taken to the Ospedale del Mare for neurosurgery. Her condition has always been classified as "extremely serious" by specialists at the Ponticelli district hospital.
