Italian fashion is still slowing down. The Italian fashion sector recorded a 6.1% reduction in turnover in the first six months of 2024, adding to the downturn that had already occurred in the second half of 2023. The contraction stood at -7.4% in the first quarter and remained at -4.7% in the second. However, there are considerable disparities in the overall trend between the "core" sectors (textiles, clothing, leather, leather goods, and footwear) and the "related" ones (beauty, eyewear, jewelry, and costume jewelry). The former fell by 10% and 6.7%, respectively, in the first and second quarters, while the latter maintained its momentum, rising at the same rate as at the end of 2023 (+4.9% and +3.2%). The domestic market's performance, which saw the industry decrease by double digits, had a particularly negative impact on the core category. Foreign countries, on the other hand, performed well, with the sector growing at a consistent rate of 2%.
