On the occasion of the 2024 assembly of Confindustria in Rome, Mario Draghi and Giorgia Meloni met yesterday at Palazzo Chigi. It had been the Prime Minister who had issued the invitation to him, during a telephone conversation, for a discussion on the report prepared by the EU Commission's consultant on European competitiveness. In her speech at the meeting, the Prime Minister referred precisely to Draghi's report on the subject. "As Mario Draghi correctly pointed out in his report on European competitiveness," the Prime Minister clarified in front of the industrialists, “Europe's ambitious environmental goals must be accompanied by adequate investment and resources, by a coherent plan to achieve them, otherwise it is inevitable that the energy and environmental transition will be at the expense of competitiveness and growth. This is also something I have taken the liberty of pointing out several times in European thoughts: it makes little sense to have some strategies and then not create the tools to implement those strategies. Because without the tools, things ultimately don't get done”.
