Bad weather continues to plague Italy, inflicting significant damage and resulting in emergency situations in various places. A five-month-old infant and his grandmother have gone missing in Tuscany's Pisa province. The family, who also included a father, mother, and grandfather, had sought refuge on the roof to avoid the flood, but only the last three had been rescued. Search operations continue ongoing. In Veneto, the Region's President, Luca Zaia, has declared a state of emergency owing to the "exceptional adverse weather conditions" that have devastated the provinces of Treviso, Padua, Vicenza, Verona, and the Metropolitan City of Venice. During the night, the Civil Protection activated the Operations Room in Marghera, where teams of volunteers worked to deal with floods and damage around the region. Over 450 calls were made to the fire department for flooding in basements, ground floors, and streets. Heavy thunderstorms slammed the Padua area, flooding irrigation ditches and streams including Cittadella and Villa del Conte. Vicenza too endured a night of heavy rain, resulting in street and basement flooding. The municipal highways, which had been briefly closed, reopened this morning, although the Municipality continues to monitor the situation through the Municipal Operations Center. In Salento, harsh weather forced a section of the Andrano beachfront to collapse. The paving and a dry stone wall fell, prompting the municipal authorities to close the panoramic walk. Heavy rain drenched the Gargano, bringing mud and debris on provincial road 89 between Mattinata and Vieste, causing the road to be temporarily closed. The Livorno area has also sustained significant damage; in particular, the Bolgherese route remains closed owing to bridge damage over the Bolgheri ditch, while other provincial roads, which reopened overnight, continue to have major concerns.
