Bergamo is the sportiest city in Italy. This was decided by the Sportsmanship Index - created by PTS, a strategic consulting firm, and now in its 18th edition - which this year contains three indicators linked to the successes of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games where Italy collected records for athletes, medals and results. Bergamo, in a photo finish, overtakes Trento, at the top in the last two years; it thus becomes the second Lombardy province (after Varese in 2021) to top the ranking. Trento drops to second place, although it remains the leading province in the macro-indicator sports & society. It remains the leader in the attractiveness of major sports events, flanked by those in athletics, which also expresses Italian Olympic silver medalist middle distance runner Nadia Battocletti, and in women's sports. However, the Alpine province remains on the sidelines in soccer (whose weight in the indicators as a whole is significant). In a strong recovery, Genoa takes third place in the overall ranking thanks to women's Olympic results and successes in less popular team sports (first and foremost, water polo. Confirmed at the foot of the podium are Florence (fourth, with supremacy in swimming and silver in professional soccer and athletics) and Milan (fifth, leading in media presence dedicated to sports and on the podium for sports practicability rate and "pro" soccer). Gaining positions are Turin (sixth with four podium appearances, was 15th last year) and Varese (from 12th to 7th).
