Young Italians are struggling to spread their wings, literally. According to the latest Eurostat report (on 2023 data), in Italy, on average, people leave the family nest around the age of 30. It continues, therefore, to confirm a trend that has been stable for 10 years now. The figure places our country in fifth place in Europe - tied with Bulgaria - with regard to the age at which people leave home later. Slightly worse than us are Spain, Greece, Slovakia and Croatia: here young people reach independence at around 31.8 years of age. By contrast, the EU average is close to 26: the earliest ever are girls and boys in the Nordic countries, where people leave the parental home around age 21.
