Mental health issues are growing more prevalent in Italy, with over 16 million people expressing moderate to severe distress. Niccolò Cusano Telematic University conducted the analysis that yielded these data. Anxiety and depression are among the most common problems, with increases of 26% and 28%, respectively, owing primarily to the Covid-19 epidemic. The most commonly reported issues are mood fluctuations (60%), sleeplessness (59%), depressive symptoms (58.9%), and panic attacks (38%). Furthermore, in 2023, about 20% of Italians utilized psychoactive psychiatric medicines, with monthly spending ranging from 31 to 100 euros. Anxiolytics (85.1%), antidepressants (51.2%), mood stabilizers (40.5%), and antipsychotics (21.4%) are among the most often used medicines, with women over 65 having a higher prevalence (21.7%) than males (17.8%).
