Zulfiqar Khan, the imam of Bologna and a Pakistani citizen, was transported to the police station to begin the deportation process. Following Khan's declarations in support of Hamas, the interior minister issued a decree ordering his deportation from national territory for reasons of state security. His lawyer, Francesco Murru, revealed the news, criticizing the measure as a "return to a police state and repression of opinions". The decree from the Interior Ministry highlights that Khan has expressed a radical interpretation of Jihad, glorifying martyrdom and the actions of mujahideen in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while also declaring his support for Hamas. The document reports that Khan referred to the mujahideen as martyrs, reaffirming his backing of Hamas. Furthermore, the 54-year-old identified jihad as a cornerstone of Islam, claiming that every Muslim has an obligation to fight for faith and participate in the war against infidels. According to the imam's lawyers, the measure must be verified in court and may be challenged in the Lazio Regional Administrative Court.
