According to an analysis of the annual budgets of Italian ministries, the government should not encounter an insurmountable obstacle in securing 3 billion euros to completely fund the upcoming budget law. This seemingly considerable number represents only 0.56% of the ministries' net current spending, a relatively little amount when compared to the overall budget: a minimum effort is sufficient to detect pockets of waste and minimize superfluous or unnecessary costs. In 2023, for example, total current expenses net of interest was 531 billion out of a total of 1,146 billion in outflows from state coffers, and the situation is unlikely to alter significantly in the next years. The ministries will spend 543 billion in 2024, 536 billion in 2025, and 532 billion in 2026. The estimated net spending for 2027, the final year of the period under consideration, is approximately $531 billion. This is according to a report by the Unimpresa Study Center, which concludes that, given these data, the 3 billion constitutes an incredibly small part of this expenditure basin.
