As part of the "2024: Year of Italian Roots Around the World", a packed program of events dedicated to celebrating Italian traditions, culture, and heritage will take place in New York. Italea - the Roots Tourism promotion program, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation within the PNRR project and funded by NextGenerationEU - will be at the center of a series of initiatives, including concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and masterclasses, aimed at introducing the project to Italians abroad and Italian descendants interested in discovering the places and traditions of their origins. The Italea mission will culminate today with participation in the Columbus Day Parade on 5th Avenue. Representatives from the Regions, Italea, and the regional Italeas will march. Among the participants will be the National Association of Italian Masks, featuring 80 members from 16 Regions, along with a musical band representing Italian tradition, consisting of 31 members. Music will play a leading role, with Antonio Castrignanò and Taranta Sounds (from the Puglia Region). A torch from the Universiadi will be carried by a member of the Italea Piemonte group, and several mayors from the municipalities involved in the Italea Roots project and a delegation of Sicilian mayors are expected to participate. Representatives from the Regions of Calabria, Campania, Lazio, Liguria, Puglia, and Sicily will also march. Additionally, there will be a beautiful attraction: a float with Italea decorations, representing our culture, roots, and traditions.
