"What has been achieved on the new Commission is "a result that I feel should make the whole nation proud, not just the majority parties. And this is why I hope that all Italian political forces will participate actively in their European political circles so that this important result for our country can be achieved quickly and smoothly, allowing the Commission to be fully operational on December 1st. During this European legislature, there will be plenty of opportunities to divide us on a number of issues on which the various political forces frequently hold drastically divergent views; however, I think it is our duty to remain united in the face of the affirmation of the national interest”. This was stated yesterday by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her communications in the Senate in view of the European Council starting today. “This is what - she adds - we did in the last legislature when Paolo Gentiloni was appointed, when Raffaele Fitto - representing Fratelli d' Italy - expressed his favor for the Italian candidate and consequently the ECR group voted in his favour, and even President Silvio Berlusconi asked to participate in the work of a commission that was not his, in order to be able to speak and intervene in support of Paolo Gentiloni. There are times when national interest must take precedence over partisan interest, and I really hope that this is one of them, without difference or hesitation”, emphasizes the prime minister.
