"In war the worst side of man emerges: selfishness, violence and lies. Let us reject the logic of weapons, turning huge military expenditures into investments to fight hunger, lack of health care and education!'' It is a vigorous appeal, the one that Pope Francis makes through his X account in nine languages @Pontifex, on the occasion of World Food Day, celebrated yesterday around the world. It is an appeal that recalls the Pontiff's proposal, expressed on several occasions, beginning with his speech for Cop 28 in Dubai, of a Global Fund to Eradicate Hunger established with money used for weapons and military spending. The Pope's post had come just hours after another appeal elevated at the end of yesterday's general audience also in St. Peter's Square, when - detaching himself from the written text - the Pontiff urged believers and others to remember areas affected by conflict and to pray and strive for peace.
