The entrance exam for the Faculty of Medicine has been eliminated: access will be open after one semester, at the end of which a national ranking based on standardized exams for all students will be established. This change was presented in the Senate by the Chair of the Education Committee, Roberto Marti, and the Chair of the Health Committee, Francesco Zaffini. The government aims to implement this measure starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, though the timeline will depend on the parliamentary process. There will be 25,000 available places, up from the current 20,000. Continuing studies in the second semester will be contingent on passing all the first-semester exams and ranking well in the national merit list. For students who do not qualify for the second semester, they can use the credits earned in the first six months to enroll in other degree programs, offering a second chance without losing the academic year.
