Sogei’s general director, Paolino Iorio, is accused of receiving over 100,000 euros in bribes from a businessman, with whom he was arrested Monday evening in Rome. Both are involved in an investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office into alleged corruption and bid-rigging in contracts involving also the Ministries of Defense and the Interior. The prosecutors from Piazzale Clodio have requested confirmation of the arrest. On Tuesday, Iorio was interrogated and gave his version of events. According to the information gathered, Iorio had been in contact with the businessman since February 2023, using a dedicated mobile line. The two allegedly met twice a month, though money exchanges did not always occur. However, on Monday, Iorio was caught by the Guardia di Finanza with an envelope containing 15,000 euros. Prosecutors Lorenzo Del Giudice and Gianfranco Gallo have asked the investigating judge to confirm the arrest and issue a preventive measure for corruption. A hearing will be scheduled soon.
