The first Mediterranean cyclones, heat waves, tornadoes, warming of the sea, floods in Romagna and the rest of Italy, and images coming from Spain have had a very strong impact on Italian public opinion. More than 80% of Italians now identify as the effects of climate change the increase in extreme weather events, resulting in hydrogeological disruption, as well as severe drought in many regions of the country. A Demopolis survey reveals that the vast majority of Italians feel particularly exposed to environmental and climate risks: this perception has grown by 32 points in 5 years, from 38% in 2019 to 70% today. In the collective perception, the exacerbation of the climate crisis is mainly determined by human and government choices and behavior: 65% are convinced of this. For less than a third, however, the cause is to be found in the natural evolution of the climate. To limit the damage, individual behaviors are also important. From separate waste collection, practiced by 86% , to the reduction of home energy consumption declared by 3 out of 4 Italians, accomplice to the increase in utility bills. But they are still a minority of those who limit the use of air conditioners, move by giving up the car or buy remanufactured products, including technological ones.
