Somec S.p.A., which specializes in the design, production, and installation of complex turnkey projects in the civil and naval sectors, announces that its U.S. subsidiary Fabbrica LLC, part of the Horizons division, which engineers naval architecture and civil facades, has signed two new agreements worth $50 million. The first deal covers the initial design and construction phases of Johns Hopkins University's new laboratory. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, it is the first research university in the United States and is home to nine world-class academic divisions that operate in close collaboration. On nine floors, the project comprises 22,300 square meters of glass and metal curtain walls, which are equipped with sunshade elements. The second agreement, on the other hand, is for a 16-story building called "Volpe Building C3" in Cambridge, Massachusetts' Kendall Square district. MIT (Investment Management Company) designed it for use as office space and research laboratories. Specifically, it will consist of over 21,000 square meters of glass and metal curtain walls that feature terracotta elements. The design phases for both projects will begin in 2025, with execution taking place between 2026 and 2027.
