Today's 24-hour national strike by doctors, health managers, nurses, and other health professionals risks disrupting nearly 1.2 million services. The mobilization, announced by Anaao Assomed, Cimo-Fesmed, and Nursing Up, is joined by a rally in Rome opposing the cuts proposed by the Maneuver to Public Health. The strike has compromised a variety of services, including approximately 50,000 X-ray examinations, 15,000 scheduled surgeries, and 100,000 specialist appointments, according to the trade unions. However, emergency assistance was assured. The protest is mostly about employment contracts, which are deemed inadequate in both the public and private sectors and have not been adequately funded. Other critical issues that have been reported include the absence of tax relief on a portion of salaries, the lack of progress on the decriminalization of medical and healthcare acts, and the minimal increase in the nursing specificity allowance, which has not been extended to midwives. The unions argue that these issues are a frightening warning for the survival of the national health system, which has already been tested by years of underfunding.
