"Xplora," a Parma-based company that specializes in advanced subsoil analysis, has initiated a strategic partnership with "Al Waha Group" of Basra (Iraq) to reclaim Iraqi territories that have been contaminated by unexploded ordnance, a vestige of the conflicts of the past thirty years. In doing so, significant amounts of land are made available for the growth of the oil and gas sector. The ongoing threat of mines and other devices impedes the development of pipelines, gas pipes, and other infrastructure. The probability of encountering buried munitions is extremely high. Currently, clearance activities are carried out manually, with teams of deminers - such as those from the "Al Waha Group" - working in the field with metal detectors and classic sensors, taking an entire day to clear just 2 hectares of land. A very slow, expensive, and dangerous process for operators. "Xplora" presents a fully automated solution for the detection and categorization of unexploded ordnance in Iraq, building on its experience in War Risk Assessment (VRB) in Italy. The Italian company's sensor and artificial intelligence-based technology allows it to reclaim more than 2 hectares in an hour rather than a day. The margins of error for detecting unexploded munitions are fewer than 1%.
