The invisible airbag that protects the elderly is finally a reality. Originally conceptualized to protect athletes, "FutureAge" is a discreet and nearly imperceptible belt that has been specifically designed for individuals who require additional safety. D-Air Lab, a startup from Vicenza, has developed this innovative technology, which is contained within a flat band that is slightly larger than those used for jogging. For years, airbag technology has protected MotoGP riders and professional skiers, triggering in fractions of a second to prevent catastrophic collisions. Today, this level of innovation has entered the homes of millions of people, serving as a crucial support for the elderly. "FutureAge" is outfitted with advanced sensors and algorithms that identify the user's movements and activate in the case of a fall, inflating an airbag to protect the pelvis and avoid hip fractures, which can be fatal as one gets older. The device had been previously tested and was comparable to a heavy fanny pack. However, thanks to rigorous aesthetic and practical research, it is now feasible to contain everything in a modest and easy-to-wear belt, minimizing the appearance of bulk. The device's simple design has been evaluated to ensure that it is easily accepted by the elderly, who will be its primary users. In addition to aesthetics, the D-Air Lab team has worked hard to improve detecting technology, lowering the danger of false positives. Everyday activities, such as sitting on the sofa or climbing stairs, which may previously cause the airbag to deploy wrongly, are now more accurately detected, assuring reliable use. Furthermore, FutureAge has an emergency call system with geolocation that may be activated immediately in the event of an accident, adding an extra layer of security for both the user and their family members.
