Initiatives calling for the release of Alberto Trentini, a Venetian charity worker incarcerated in Venezuela since November 15, are rising. The "Alberto Trentini Libero" (Free Alberto Trentini) group has launched a "Wall of Hope" in addition to a petition that has already received 80,000 signatures. A website where anyone with a few simple actions can post their photo while displaying the "Alberto Trentini Libero" banner (download from the site). The same banner was seen, among other places, in the offices of various Italian municipalities. According to what has been revealed thus far, Trentini is being accused of terrorism by the Venezuelan government (which the European Union does not recognize). According to Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the administration is attempting to enlist the United States in the release negotiations, which are proving difficult.
