In the province of Pisa, the first Buddhist monastery of the Tibetan tradition in Italy will be constructed in Pomaia di Santa Luce. It will be constructed from scratch on a rock foundation, just like traditional Tibetan monasteries, in a region of exceptional beauty that has been subjected to the environmental trauma of excavation in the past. This area will be restored through the establishment of a park that is accessible to all and provides a space for contemplation and tranquility. The presentation of this distinctive project in Italy will provide an opportunity to engage in an interdisciplinary comparison that will encourage a dialogue between spirituality and architecture, thereby addressing the social, environmental, and cultural values of the new monastery. The ceremony will be attended by Geshe Thubten Chonyi, abbot of the monastery of Kopan (Nepal) and Lhungtok Choekhorling, Filippo Scianna, president of the Italian Buddhist Union, architect Gino Zavanella, who, among his most well-known works, signed the project for the futuristic Juventus Stadium, and Massimo Stordi, president of the Sangha Lhungtok Choekhorling monastic association.
