Pietro Senapa, superkiller of the Corso dei Mille gang, called "U bummuluni", died in Palermo at the age of 75. Accused of six murders, he was sentenced to life in prison in 1986. He had been released from prison a few months earlier for serious health reasons. Born in Palermo on October 17, 1949, he had long been a member of the firebrand group led by first Filippo Marchese and then Francesco Tagliavia. Senapa had initially gone to prison for the October 5, 1977, murder of a pastry chef in the Kalsa district, Michele Forti. Accusing Senapa had been the victim's wife, who had seen him leaving the murder scene immediately after the murder. The woman had also confirmed the charges during the trial. In February 1991 he had been released from prison thanks to a judicial loophole, along with Salvatore Rotolo, also charged with six murders and sentenced to life in prison. Pietro Senapa in the 1980s had been accused of committing a series of murders in the death chamber in Piazza Sant'Erasmo, where victims of mobsters were tortured. Memorable at the major trial, during a deposition of the turncoat Tommaso Buscetta - who spoke protected in a glass gazebo - his screams, clinging to the bars. Although the Police commissioner had banned public funerals, Senapa's coffin was accompanied by long applause from family and friends.
