The Guardia di Finanza arrested Giovanni Oggioni, the former director of Urban Planning for the Municipality of Milan and vice-president of the Landscape Commission, on charges of corruption, obstruction of justice, and forgery. The operation, which followed an investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office, revealed an illicit system including Commission members, economic operators, private designers, and city administration employees. This group's goal was to enable the issuance of unlawful building permits and conduct speculative real estate transactions. Oggioni was placed under house arrest, with a precautionary seizure of around 300,000 euros, considered the proceeds of the crime. Among the allegations are tens of thousands of euros in paid consultation provided to a construction industry association and a private builder while he was a member of the Landscape Commission between 2021 and 2024. In addition, the Prosecutor's Office accused Oggioni of attempting to delete evidence of his involvement after learning of the inquiry. Beppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, expressed his concern regarding the situation, but he also underscored his defensive stance toward the municipal administration. "If one has made a mistake, let him pay, and pay hard," Sala remarked, implying that anyone participating in illicit activity will face suitable consequences.
