Elon Musk's cuts to American state personnel through the Doge system are also affecting US military stations in Italy, particularly in Aviano (Pordenone) and Vicenza. According to Il Gazzettino, Italian employees would be among those who received emails from the US Department of Efficiency requesting that they "justify" their role or leave their positions. The measure would have an impact on the commercial sectors of the bases, as well as the fire service's firefighters and school instructors. The union representatives acted promptly, requesting explanation from the appropriate authorities. According to the 31st Fighter Wing's Public Affairs, Italian workers are not required to respond to the Doge's email since their contracts are governed by Italian law rather than US law. However, according to union sources, the top management of the bases' commercial departments would have indicated the contrary, directing their personnel to respond to Musk's request. Roberto Del Savio, Fisascat-Cisl union manager for the Aviano base, confirmed that the case has been referred to the Joint Civilian Personnel Committee-Italy (JCPC), which oversees the matter at the national level. While waiting for a clear position, the unions remain vigilant, and an official communication confirming the exclusion of Italian employees from the cuts is expected.
