Pope Francis had a peaceful night and woke up shortly after 8 a.m., as reported by the Vatican Press Office on his 22nd day of hospitalization at Rome’s Gemelli Polyclinic. The Pontiff will continue his prescribed therapy and motor physiotherapy today, alternating between mechanical ventilation at night and high-flow oxygen during the day. Given the stability of his condition, no official medical bulletin is expected today, though updates will still be provided.
On Thursday evening, Pope Francis' voice once again resonated in St. Peter’s Square. During the Rosary prayer dedicated to his health, an audio message recorded just hours earlier at the hospital was played. In the recording, speaking with a weary voice, he thanked the faithful for their prayers and gave them his blessing.
With today’s hospitalization, Pope Francis has now spent as many days in the hospital as Saint John Paul II did in 1981 following the assassination attempt by Ali Agca. John Paul II also remained at Gemelli for 22 days, from May 13 to June 3, after undergoing emergency surgery.
In the message released yesterday, the Pope’s voice conveyed both effort and a deep desire to express gratitude. According to Vatican sources, Francis spoke while using oxygen support, once again demonstrating his strong bond with the faithful.
