The Department of Health has completed the investigation at Trapani's ASP (Provincial Health Authority), revealing worrying figures: from 2024 to the present, over 3,300 histology samples have yet to be reported in various Sicilian healthcare facilities. An emergency that, despite reports, has never been dealt with effectively. The Region is now taking emergency action: the ASPs of Palermo, Catania, and Caltanissetta, in conjunction with hospitals such as Villa Sofia-Cervello and the Policlinico di Palermo, will be required to mitigate the backlog by March 14. The usual reporting time ranges from 7 to 14 days, with potential extensions for less urgent samples. Trapani ASP's resource management is also being addressed. During the time when the reports were accumulating, the health authority allocated more than 100,000 euros to communication and promotion initiatives, including bus advertising, participation in events like the Cous Cous Fest, and service campaigns. A circumstance that has caused controversy and fueled debate about the importance of public health investments.
