A Termometro Politico poll revealed mixed views on Italy's engagement in the Ukrainian conflict and military spending. When asked whether the country should dispatch a contingent after the end of the fighting, 44% expressed support, but only in the event of a peace agreement under the UN's supervision and with international guarantees. Another 15.3% believe Ukraine should be protected from future invasions. On the other hand, 25% agree that Italy should not assist in any way, whether with soldiers or weapons. In terms of defense expenditure, the relative majority (34.2%) believes that it is appropriate to achieve 2% of GDP, as is the case in other European countries, but without any additional increases. While 27.1% would prefer to preserve the current budget, investing in health and education, 16.8% would prefer to reduce military expenditure in order to prevent a global escalation. Only 14.7% approve a considerable rise of 4-5% of GDP, while 3.9% believe the presence of an army is unnecessary.
