The introduction of the crime of femicide divides Italian public opinion. According to a survey by the Termometro Politico study center, 60% of respondents support the measure, which was recently approved in the government's bill. However, the majority believes that prevention should be based mainly on education (37%), while another 26.3% consider the intervention to be late and insufficient, highlighting the lack of concrete action against the femicide emergency in recent years. On the other hand, a third of the sample expresses a negative opinion. For 22.3% , the rule would be unconstitutional, as "the murder of a woman is no more serious than that of a man" and would represent "yet another criminalization of the male figure". Another 11.5% see it as an ineffective measure, arguing that the tightening of penalties does not reduce crimes and that, in Italy, femicides would still be less frequent than in other countries and on the decline.
