A Cold War museum will be established in the former NATO West Star bunker in Affi, near Verona. The Verona Chamber of Commerce has provided the required funding and the museum is estimated to receive 100,000 visitors per year. The idea for the museum dates back to 2007, when NATO decommissioned the secret command and communications site for Western allied forces. In 2018, the site was officially transferred to the Municipality of Affi, with the nearly impossible task of recovering it, given the cost of roughly 6 million euros. Now it appears that the problem has been solved. For forty years, the bunker served as a strategic location during the Cold War. However, the Cold War is not a subject that is taught in schools, and as a result, young people are unable to comprehend its complexity. The museum will help to fill this gap.
