Historian Lucio Villari, author of numerous essays on the period between the 18th and 20th centuries and a history textbook for schools on which several generations of Italian students studied, died Sunday. The news of his death was given by his family. He was 91 years old. Villari was born in Bagnara Calabra, in the province of Reggio Calabria, in 1933. He taught contemporary history at the University of Roma Tre. Among other things, he wrote with his brother Rosario, also a historian, a very popular history textbook for schools, "Society in History. A history course for junior high school", published by Sansoni in the late 1970s. He has been host and member of the scientific committee of numerous television programs on Rai 3, and has collaborated with various newspapers, most notably La Repubblica.
