Joe Avati, an Australian comedian and actor, is in Italy till March 23 to explore his Calabrian heritage. Avati was born in Australia, but his parents are originally from Reggio Calabria, namely the small villages of Melicuccà and Rizziconi. He is a popular comic, particularly among Italians and their descendants in Australia, but also in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Avati is now eager to learn about his parents' and grandparents' birthplaces, as well as their traditions and rituals, cuisines, people, and natural beauty. He will do so thanks to Italea, the root tourism promotion program launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the PNRR project, funded by NextGenerationEU.
