"Ours will be the first newspaper made entirely by Artificial Intelligence". Claudio Cerasa, since January 2015 Editor-in-Chief of Il Foglio, announces that for one month the newspaper will split (keeping the price unchanged). That is, on one side the traditional newspaper founded in January 1996 by Giuliano Ferrara, and on the other its "double" made by the expected as much as feared Artificial Intelligence. Cerasa explains, "Everything will be realized by AI: articles, headlines, summaries. A total of twenty-two news pieces and three editorials". But how will the mechanism work? "We in the newsroom will simply ask questions, queries on the topics we intend to cover. To explain: the news of the day and the slant - whether it is serious, ironic, analytical and so on - we will decide. Then the text will all be produced by Artificial Intelligence. For example, today the reader will find an article answering a question: how much can Putin be trusted? And Artificial Intelligence will do its job. We will also open debates on a topic with one editorial for and one against". But AI often makes mistakes, even glaring or naive mistakes... "We will leave them because we think it is right to test ourselves. In order to really handle AI, one needs to know it and study it without being afraid of it. The editorial staff - the director assures - is already ready to have a lot of fun”.
