On duties “we hope that common sense will prevail”. These are the words by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking yesterday at the opening ceremony of the "Agricoltura è" Village in Rome's Piazza della Repubblica to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome. The Head of State was welcomed by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, Francesco Lollobrigida. After visiting the Village, the President of the Republic attended the opening ceremony, during which he talked with a representation of students from agricultural and hotel institutes. Mattarella emphasized how "duties create obstacles to markets, hinder freedom of trade, alter the market, and penalize quality products," and, according to the Head of State, "this is something that is really unacceptable for us, but it should be for all countries in the world". Mattarella, moreover, recalled how that of European integration was the work of "courageous and far-sighted statesmen". Finally, the President of the Republic greeted the Pope's return to the Vatican: "I would like to reiterate how pleased Italians are with the return of Francis to his home in the Vatican, renewing our wishes for his full and speedy recovery”.
