Real wages in Italy remain 8.7 percentage points lower than in 2008. This is the conclusion drawn from the International Labour Organization's (ILO) World Wages Report, which shows a long-term downward wage trend in our country. Although there was growth in 2024, it was insufficient to offset the losses incurred as a result of elevated inflation in previous years. A concerning result that places Italy as the country with the poorest pay performance among the G20 nations. "Italy shows the sharpest decline among the world's major economies", said Giulia De Lazzari, the ILO's specialist on wage policies, emphasizing the importance of taking action to reverse this trend.
