The amount wagered by Italians on gambling and betting reached €157 billion in 2024, according to estimates from the Agency of Monopolies. A figure that is perpetually increasing, as the total funding in 2020 was 88.2 billion. And that, notwithstanding the geopolitical upheavals occurring at all latitudes - from Russia to the Middle East and the United States - will continue to increase. This is illustrated by a report on the Italian entertainment and media sector produced by PwC, one of the Big Four firms that dominate the global consulting industry. Filippo Schemoz, partner at PwC Italia, is fully aware of this: "The online betting and gaming markets will continue their upward trend, with a compound annual growth rate of 12.4% and 10%, respectively. In a regulatory and technologically driven environment, operators will have the challenge of providing high-quality digital experiences for an increasingly large and mobile-oriented user base. In this regard, the digital transformation experiences observed in other sectors of the entertainment and media industries can serve as a source of inspiration for players in this market". In short, the gaming business appears to have a promising future, which is reflected in tax revenues.
