Terna, the company that manages Italy's electrical grid, announced a 23 billion investment over the next ten years to satisfy rising energy demand and integrate renewable sources. The investment will complete work on the futuristic underwater power networks connecting Sicily to Campania and Sardinia, Abruzzo to Marche, and Calabria to Sicily. It will also include new power lines between Umbria and Tuscany, a direct current connection between Foggia and Forlì, and the doubling of the interconnection with Greece, adding to the 30 existing interconnections with seven other countries—including Tunisia, a major supplier of renewable energy and collaborator on the first direct current electricity connection between Europe and Africa.
