"Trusting in the mercy of God the Father, let us continue to pray for peace: in martyred Ukraine, in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar, which is also suffering so much from the earthquake". These were the Pope’s words during yesterday’s Angelus. "I am following the situation in South Sudan with concern. I reiterate my sincere plea to all leaders to exert their maximum effort to alleviate the tension in the nation. We need to set aside our differences and, with courage and responsibility, gather around a table and begin a productive discourse. Only in this way will it be possible to alleviate the suffering of the dear South Sudanese people while also establishing a future of peace and stability. In Sudan, the battle continues to claim innocent lives. I urge the conflict's sides to prioritize the safety of their civilized brothers and sisters, and I hope that new negotiations will begin as quickly as possible to ensure a long-term solution to the situation. The international community should step up its efforts to deal with the terrible humanitarian crisis. Thank goodness, there are some positive facts: for example, the ratification of the agreement on the delimitation of the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which is a fantastic diplomatic victory. I encourage both countries to continue down this road".
