Hounded for three days, the alleged killer of 20-year-old Malian Aboubakar Cissé, who was stabbed to death in a mosque in La Grand-Combe, southern France, finally turned himself in to Italian Police. Olivier A., born in Lyon in 2004 and a French national, spontaneously presented himself at a Police Station in Pistoia, as confirmed by Alès Prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini. The young man will now be subject to a European arrest warrant, with a view to his transfer to France, where he will have to answer for the murder. The affair has triggered a wave of concern in France, where more than 70 officers have been deployed since Friday to track down the suspect, who was described as “potentially extremely dangerous” by the Prosecutor. Olivier A. had in fact claimed the murder and, in later comments, hinted at the possibility of carrying out similar acts in the future. After the deadly attack, French authorities decided to tighten security around mosques, fearing possible retaliation or other incidents of violence.
