Lucio Manisco, the historic voice of Italian journalism and a Rai correspondent from the United States, died at the age of 97. Born in Florence on February 16, 1928, Manisco played a leading role in over seventy years of Italian and international history. After graduating from high school in 1947 and studying literature at La Sapienza University in Rome, he began his career in journalism as an editor at "Italia Socialista" and "Il Giornale" in Rome. His career took a significant turn when, in the early 1950s, he became an assistant to the BBC programmes in London, and then took on the role of London correspondent for "Il Messaggero". However, it was not until 1955 that his name became inextricably linked to the United States, where he continued to work as a correspondent for "Il Messaggero" until 1984. From 1987 to 1992, with his transition to television, he became a familiar face as the TG3 correspondent from the United States. After finishing his journalism career, Manisco chose to enter politics by being elected as an independent on the Rifondazione Comunista's lists for the Chamber and later the European Parliament.
