The Constitutional Court rejected the appeals filed by fourteen judicial authorities, declaring the concerns of legitimacy regarding the repeal of the crime of abuse of office unfounded. The only issues considered admissible are those relating to the obligations derived from the United Nations Convention against Corruption (Merida Convention), but even on this front, the Constitutional Court expressed a negative opinion: no international constraint requires States to provide for the crime or prohibits its repeal. Carlo Nordio, Minister of Justice, expressed satisfaction, stating: “In the future, may these exploitations come to an end, as they do not benefit our country’s image”.
