Jannik Sinner has shown amazing tenacity in the first two Internazionali d'Italia matches, but now the real challenge begins. After defeating Dutchman Jesper De Jong in two sets, the 23-year-old South Tyrolean will face Argentine Francisco Cerundolo - ranked 18th in the world and the only tennis player to beat him on Rome's clay - in the round of 16. Sinner is motivated to avenge that previous loss, but he will need to improve his performance, as he stated after the match with De Jong: "It was a totally different match, especially in terms of conditions, than the first one. I began off well, but soon my concentration dipped significantly. I was not moving like before", he said. "Fortunately, I was able to recover quickly, and the second set went as planned. De Jong got injured, but I hope it’s nothing serious, because he’s an incredible person". Sinner has already set his sights on Cerundolo, a player who has performed admirably on clay, reaching the semifinals of the Masters 1000 in Madrid: "Every day is a new, difficult challenge. The last time I played on this court, I lost", he continued, "so I'll have to up my game if I want to compete with him. These are important matches to understand where I’m at. Let's see what I can do, even if the mindset is what matters most. I'm giving it my all, and every day is a good test for me".
