Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni defined the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as "increasingly dramatic and indefensible" during question time in the Chamber of Deputies, openly condemning the Israeli government's actions, as the opposition had strongly requested. Meloni recalled having "often difficult conversations" with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which she again emphasized the need to "end hostilities" and follow international and humanitarian laws. The prime minister reaffirmed that Italy will persist in its efforts to achieve a diplomatic resolution, beginning with the reconstruction plan proposed by the Arab countries and maintaining an "open, frank, and if necessary, critical" dialogue with all parties involved. However, she ruled out the recall of the Italian ambassador to Israel. Meloni also emphasized Italy's involvement "since the beginning of the conflict" on a diplomatic and humanitarian level, recalling the delivery of over 110 tons of food and health aid to Gaza's civilian population. While condemning the recent actions of the Israeli government, which he characterized as "choices not shared", the prime minister also emphasized that "hostilities were not initiated by Israel" and that "the inhumane attacks of Hamas were based on a design that was intended to isolate Israel, sacrificing the lives of Israeli and Palestinian civilians in order to achieve terrorist objectives".
