For the first time in history, the America's Cup will be held in Italy, with Naples serving as the venue for the 38th edition, which will take place between spring and summer of 2027. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made the announcement yesterday: "I am proud to announce that the America's Cup will be held in Naples, a global event that combines tradition, technological innovation, engineering excellence, and competitive spirit". The most prestigious and oldest sailing competition in the world will be held between Castel dell'Ovo and Posillipo, with the teams' facilities being established in Bagnoli, an area in which the government plans to invest in order to establish it as a center of excellence in international sailing. The challenge will be led by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, which will compete for the prestigious Hundred Guineas Cup, which is currently held by Emirates Team New Zealand. Gaetano Manfredi, mayor of Naples and commissioner for the Bagnoli area, emphasized how the event might serve as a catalyst for the territory's development: "The America's Cup will be an accelerator for tourism, the maritime industry, entrepreneurship, and urban regeneration. Naples is prepared to demonstrate its potential to provide tangible achievements once more".
