"I have always considered tourism one of the driving engines of the Italian economy". With these words, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni opened her video message to the General Assembly of Federalberghi, stressing the importance of the decision to reinstate the Ministry of Tourism at the beginning of her government term, endowing it with a portfolio and resources. Meloni claimed the results achieved, starting with a long-term strategy that included long-overdue reforms and systemic action led by Minister Daniela Santanché. “It is a choice that has proved successful," she said, "because it has made it possible to design a long-term strategy and give concrete answers to the sector”. Among the main interventions: incentives for the seasonal adjustment and relocation of tourist flows, funds for small municipalities with a tourist vocation (34 million euros) and significant resources for the mountains (about 470 million euros between facilities, artificial snow and promotion). "We have used PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funds," he continued, "to help, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, improve their facilities and offer more quality. We have put workers in the sector back at the center, cutting taxes on gross wages for night work and overtime and expanding tip tax relief". Meloni also recalled the investment in training, "with a 21 million euro fund intended to increase the level and professional offer," and the introduction of the National Identification Code (NIC) to regulate short rentals. "In 2024 we reached a new record: 458 million tourist presences. For the first time we have surpassed France, and now we are second only to Spain," said the PM, emphasizing the growth of foreign tourists, length of stay and overall spending.
