A 26-year-old university student has been charged by the Catania Public Prosecutor's Office with aggravated fraud against the Sicilian Region. The young man allegedly forged hundreds of boarding passes using graphics and writing software, with the aim of obtaining reimbursements through the regional Flight Bonus for Sicilian residents. According to what investigators reconstructed, the student allegedly applied for reimbursements totaling 182,000 euros, actually managing to collect nearly 86,000 euros before the disbursement was suspended. Initial suspicions arose from an anomaly: documentation submitted in October reported the boy's presence on 892 flights in a single month, in some cases even on different routes at the same time. The Guardia di Finanza, through extensive checks, found that only three boarding passes were found to be genuine, while all others were counterfeit. The collective reimbursement system, which aggregates the claims of numerous passengers, had initially made it difficult to detect the scam. Prosecutors ordered the seizure of current accounts and financial investments in the boy's name with a total value of more than 86,000 euros. In addition to fraud to obtain public funds, the suspect is also charged with self-laundering for reinvesting the proceeds in government bonds and insurance funds.
