Italian artists collected nearly 150 million euros in royalties from Spotify in 2024, a 20 percent increase over the previous year. This was revealed by Loud & Clear, the platform's annual report analyzing the music streaming economy. Compared to 2019, royalties have more than tripled. In 2024, Spotify distributed a total of $10 billion to the global music industry-the highest figure ever recorded in a single year-bringing the historical total to 60 billion. More than 40% of royalties to Italian artists went to independents, who globally account for half of the revenue generated by the platform. Italian music exports are also growing: about 50% of royalties come from listening abroad, driven by playlists, especially in the United States, where there are more than 130 million playlists containing Italian music-more than in Italy itself. For the first time, the Italian language has surpassed $100 million in global revenues, growing 23% over 2023. Since 2017, the number of languages with which artists have surpassed $1 million on Spotify has doubled, reaching $17 million by 2024.
