Renting a room in major Italian cities has become a serious challenge. Prices continue to climb, contracts are becoming shorter, and obtaining secure housing becomes increasingly difficult, particularly for students and young workers. According to Idealista's report, the average monthly cost for a room in Milan would be 700 euros in the first quarter of 2025, a 4.1% decrease from the previous year. However, the Lombard capital remains the most costly city in Italy. In contrast, rents have risen sharply in other university cities: in Bologna, the average rent has climbed to 600 euros (+31.9%), in Rome, it has grown to 550 euros (+14.6%), and in Florence, it has risen to 520 euros, representing a 40% increase. Padua's prices are also rising sharply: 500 euros per month on average, a 16.3% increase in one year. The national average rent for a room in a shared apartment increased by 11.1% compared to the same period in 2024.
